Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA) (066–069)

The Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments are no longer being administered.

This assessment includes four subtests: Reading Comprehension and Interpretation, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, and Writing. Examinees must pass the Reading Comprehension and Interpretation, Mathematics, and Writing subtests. Passing the MoGEA Science and Social Studies subtest is no longer a testing requirement for admission into a Missouri educator preparation program. Format Internet-based test (IBT) and online-proctored test; multiple-choice questions and written assignment
  • Reading Comprehension and Interpretation: 39 multiple-choice questions
  • Mathematics: 40 multiple-choice questions
  • Science and Social Studies: 40 multiple-choice questions
  • Writing: 1 written assignment
Time Internet-Based Testing
  • Tutorial and nondisclosure agreement: 15 minutes
  • Reading Comprehension and Interpretation: 75 minutes testing time
  • Mathematics: 75 minutes testing time
  • Science and Social Studies: 60 minutes testing time
  • Writing: 60 minutes testing time
  • All 4 subtests: 4 1/2 hours testing time, plus a 15-minute break between subtests 2 and 3
 Online Proctoring
  • Tutorial and nondisclosure agreement: 15 minutes
  • Reading Comprehension and Interpretation: 75 minutes testing time
  • Mathematics: 75 minutes testing time
  • Science and Social Studies: 60 minutes testing time
  • Writing: 60 minutes testing time
Breaks Internet-Based Testing
You may take restroom breaks during testing. Time taken for unscheduled breaks is considered part of the available testing time.
Note: If you are taking all 4 subtests in a single test session, you will receive a 15-minute scheduled break between subtests 2 and 3. 		Online Proctoring
No breaks are allowed.
Test Dates Test appointments are no longer available.
Passing Score Passing scores are set by Missouri educator preparation programs; examinees must pass the Reading Comprehension and Interpretation, Mathematics, and Writing subtests. Passing the Science and Social Studies subtest is no longer required for program admission.
Test Fee $59 for all four subtests (for internet-based testing only), or $25 for a single subtest
Candidates taking the internet-based test may only register for the four-subtest option one time. Note that this option is not available to candidates taking the online-proctored test.

Taking and Passing the MoGEA

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has implemented a testing policy whereby:

  • Candidates have one opportunity to register to take all four subtests in one test session.
  • Candidates may register to take each subtest independently.

The one-time option to take all four subtests in one test session applies only to the internet-based version of the assessment that is administered at a test center. The subtests for the online-proctored version of this assessment are administered in separate testing sessions; therefore, candidates must register for each subtest separately.
